Spirit Essence by Aikya Spirit Essence by Aikya
I've started experimenting with my new watercolor paints, they are so vibrant I can't stop looking at them! I'm working on creating textures and just allowing the water and pigment do the work. I have a tendency to try and control the outcome of my art too much, so I'm working on loosening up

The reference image for this painting belongs to :iconhorses--stock:

She has a wonderful gallery full of references

how do you make the paint look slpochy like that?

To get the bubble/splotchy effect I drip my wet paintbrush into the pain on the paper while it is still wet. This causes the paint to spread out and look splotchy. :)

I love all of your watercolors, is there any tips you can give me on them? I mean I took classes and all that, but I have never made anything as good as what your talent is. Is there a place you learned to do them, or are you self taught?

Thank you very much :) I am mostly self taught, I did take drawing and ceramic classes in high school, a bunch of drawing classes in college, but only one real watercolor class in college. I am mostly self taught, I think the drawing basics I learned helped translate over to watercolors. Working with water is good for me because it forces me NOT to focus on perfection as much, since it does have a mind of its own. While working with drawing media I found I was more likely to be unhappy with my work.  There are many artists here on DA who I look to for inspiration, such as :iconaurorawienhold: I have found a lot of great tutorials on youtube as well.

I am so jealous of your watercolor skills. It takes me so long to get watercolor just the way I want it to look. :/

I use Schmincke watercolors, here is a link to the product: [link] They are very vibrant and the pigments are very easy to blend :)
